Ashley has been gaming since the days of the Atari 2600, staying up well past any decent time a five year old should be up, ferrying soldiers and operating on them in the 2600′s version of M*A*S*H. Since then she has owned just about every major gaming console aside from the N64 and the Game Cube.
Ashley discovered her love of indie games in 2000 when she managed to get her hands on a crappy shareware disk with 100 games on it. One of the games available was D.R.O.D., which stands for Deadly Rooms of Death. The puzzle elements and thoughtful game play instantly captured her attention, but she was disappointed to find the game was no longer being distributed. Fast forwarding to 2004 and browsing around the web during work at the college campus, Ashley ran across the DROD.net website which saw Erik Hermansen re-obtaining his creation from Webfoot in order to release it first as open source and later on followed by commercial sequels.
Since discovering DROD Ashley found indie games to be similar to opening a small treasure trove in the back of a long forgotten cave. Many of them are great titles that are deserving of much more attention than they receive, which is why she has dedicated time and effort into creating an indie gaming podcast. Aside from the podcast, she also writes for Gamer Limit as an indie games columnist and has had a few publications in Indie Game Magazine.

Plinking around with such classics as Pacman and the Mario Bros./Duckhunt combo cartridge, it wasn’t until the Sega Genesis and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 that Sarah really found a fondness for gaming. Quickly moving on to (and becoming obsessed with) RPGs such as Phantasy Star IV, and her pet console the SNES’ classics Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire II, Sarah realized a strong correlation between gaming and writing, aspiring to become a novelist with the inspiration found in immersive games in addition to her favorite books.
In 2002, she was shown the English translation of RPG Maker 2000. This opened up an entirely new world of games for Sarah; a community of hobbyists and enthusiasts alike, creating and playing SNES-style RPGs often made by only one or two people.
This became like a gateway drug to the more in-depth world of indie games, but it wasn’t until meeting Ashley in 2007 that Sarah was truly exposed to the hard work and labor of love that developers endure to make their games a reality, often only to a moderately sized cult following. With 2 Girls 1 Game, Sarah is happy to be able to help overturn the rock of gaming to expose the juicy indie grubs underneath. Tastes just like chicken!
