The Spire Teaser Trailer
This morning I was greeted with an email from Sam Cobley, the Creative Director at Raw Games. He wanted me to have a look at the trailer for their upcoming title The Spire, which I dutifully marked to watch later and went about my day. This evening when I returned to my inbox and checked out the trailer, I was pretty impressed. Have a look for yourself and see my thoughts afterward.
Nifty, eh? While watching the video my mind went, “Portal? Singularity? Hell yeah!” Both are games I’ve thoroughly enjoyed because of the unique gameplay they offer and it looks like The Spire is going to scratch the same itch, but in a more independent fashion. The glove you seem to be wielding in the video is known only as the ‘Tool’ and currently boasts the ability to manipulate objects by pushing, pulling, grabbing, and crushing them. Did I say crushing? Yes. Yes I did.
The puzzling aspect of the game will be interesting to see in action beyond just a trailer, since it really is reminiscent of Singularity which despite being an Activision title, easily holds my heart as the best mainstream first person shooter released this year. Keep your eye on this one and if you’re really interested in what you see, don’t be shy about popping over to Raw Games’ IndieDB page and helping them win Indie Game of the Year by giving them a vote. It’s well deserved, in my opinion.
