Free Game Friday: Little Wheel
While I’m probably one of a handful of people left in the world who hasn’t played this game, it seems only right that I repent for my sins and bring Little Wheel to your attention.
The game was suggested to me by our good friend Mark, who insisted it was one of the best games on Kongregate, a site I admittedly knew little about, despite its popularity. While Kongregate is now the property of GameStop, the various developers that submit games over there are very much indie, making the site something of a treasure trove for free games.
Little Wheel definitely caught my eye. Much like Machinarium, you play a little robot who must wander about his robot city interacting with objects, with the ultimate goal of restoring power to the city and its inhabitants.
What makes this game so appealing right from the start is its visuals. Everything takes on a very dusk-like feel, with everything sans the background represented in silhouette alone. The animations are smooth as can be, which almost seems surprising given the simplicity of the atmosphere, but once you see it, you’ll understand exactly what I mean. The music is calm and jazzy, which definitely plays nicely with the overall style of the game.
Unfortunately, Little Wheel is very short, and you can easily finish it in under 15 minutes. The puzzles are creative, but not difficult, and you might take a moment to figure out exactly what you’re meant to do, but you certainly won’t find yourself stumped.
All in all, Little Wheel is a gorgeous little offering from aptly named developer Fast Games, and you should check it out as well as their other games, either on their site or on Kongregate.
Like Little Wheel? Do you know of another great free indie game you want me to feature? Let me know what you think or feel free to make suggestions either via email, here in the comments, or on Twitter.
