Free Game Friday: Super Crate Box
As platformers tend not to call to me as they do a lot of gamers, when one comes along that I’m thoroughly enthused about, it’s a big deal. It’s interesting, then, that such a game came along with such simple, almost poetic form.
Meet Super Crate Box, the 8-bit arcade-style platformer that brings us back to a time when high scores were paramount. Much like Super Meat Boy, this game will scratch your itch for platforming in a way few games can, and with all the anger and swearing at the screen goodness you’ve come to expect from the true beacons of the genre.
It’s so good, in fact, that I’ve recorded a short video for your enjoyment. Do I aim to please? I think so.
For those of you who’d like to see the awesome alligator I mentioned in the video, or any of the other sprites from the game, have a look at this thread over on the Minecraft forums, where Tolster was nice enough to provide animated .gifs of all the amazing Super Crate Box avatars and enemies.
If you know of a free, easily accessible indie game you’d love to see featured on a Free Game Friday, send me an email, give us a call, or throw your suggestion at me (or us) on Twitter. Recommendations are always appreciated!
