#06 – IndiE3

With E3 over now the two girls take a look at some of their favorite titles revealed in the big announcements, both indie and otherwise. The adventure game giveaway announced in last week’s episode comes to an end with more discussion about a few new adventure titles that have been released this week, including the new Jolly Rover adventure game by Andrew Goulding that was chosen as our One Game Pick. In addition we have another giveaway, so tune in to find out how you could win!

Of course, several new games were released on the various digital distribution networks, with Dogfighter, Vizati, and Eversion HD all three seeing releases. Aside from these great games to pursue, the Indie Games Magazine recently got an overhaul and the girls discuss the new look as well as Overlord Ror’s contributions to the magazine.

The IndieDB.com was announced this past week and 2 Girls 1 Game is featured prominently on the site with our own group. If you’re interested in showing us support, you can join the site and either track or join our group in order to boost our popularity there. Our announcements here and there will be the same, but the IndieDB.com group will only receive announcements regarding new episode releases, whereas our website will feature new releases and written reviews for games that we enjoy.

Our winner for this week’s contest was iLag, who had a very profound knowledge of adventure games that was illustrated throughout all of his comments. Enjoy your copy of The Whispered World, iLag! To carry through with the give away spirit, we have another give away for you awesome folks. The Humble Indie Bundle was a few weeks ago, but Mahkia and I purchased an additional copy to give away on the show. If you’re interested, listen and post your comment for a chance at winning six great games.

As previously mentioned, our One Game Pick this week is Jolly Rover, a great adventure game by Andrew Goulding that you can check out on Steam. It has achievements as well as Steam Cloud support with an awesome pirate-y story and great voicework and artwork to match. If you’re a big fan of adventure games, this is one game you won’t want to miss. Check out these screenshots below, or go and give Andrew your support by purchasing the game!

So no one wants a Humble Indie Bundle? Probably because they all got it already. Plus copies for their friends, grandmothers, and dogs.

Totally unrelated: will there be a Puzzle Dimension review? The screenshots look interesting, it has achievements... hmm, tempting. I always end up buying gazillions of puzzle games (damn you, awesome Steam sales!) and not playing them, though. Ah, just noticed there's a demo.
  • You're almost right, I do not have time to play, but it's not the Steam sales. It's real life :P . So I'll have to pass on contests for quite a while.
  • Mahkia
We've both been fortunate enough to get to play Puzzle Dimension, and we've been getting a kick out of it so far! Definitely expect coverage of it in the near future. :)
  • Move better than Kinect? Don't know about that. The Sorcery game somehow takes advantage of waving the wand, but that's it, if you ask me.

Kinect has the advantage of being developed by Microsoft. These guys do software development for a living, and I'm pretty sure they'll make developing games for Kinect a pretty easy process; they did that with the XBox 360. What will that result in? It will result in a lot of games for Kinect (as it did for XBox), and that will lead into a lot of traction for it.

If the Kinect comes out with games like Sorcery, I will change my tune. I'm a Microsoft fan, and finding an advantage of Move over Kinect really came as a surprise to me. Microsoft just didn't show anything regarding Kinect that, thus far, impresses me. I definitely hope that changes.

It's pretty much what Kevin Butler said, "It's all about the gaming" The console which brings the more interesting games win.
I still think Zelda and the Sorcerer were the most interesting games using motion controlled interfaces.
Party games was the reason I sold my Wii after finishing Twilight Princess, there weren't any good games that took advantage of the controller.
  • Mahkia
I completely agree. Once both devices hit the market and we see more of what both can do and the games they bring with them, we'll see what happens. Microsoft just didn't do a very good job of showing me games that appeal to me. And I love my 360, so I'd definitely love to see more titles that I enjoy.
  • It could quite possibly turn out to be a great device. But the thing is, what was shown at E3 was a bunch of party and dance games. I don't want a bunch of party and dance games. If I wanted party games, I'd play my Wii more. The voice controls for the menus was neat.. but I don't really need that either. Just saying, Microsoft hasn't shown me a device I want to pay $150 for, while the Move is a more precise rip-off of the Wii, Sony has presented me with games I truly want to play, such as Sorcery and Heroes on the Move.

Am I disappointed that IloMilo isn't ported to the PC... but I would totally want one of those plushies.

In other news: yay, I won a game! Thank you so much. Installed it, played for a couple of minutes and already fell in love with the atmosphere. What a great-looking (and -sounding) game! I hope the gameplay keeps up. More detailed impressions later, maybe.

Great show, ladies! (...but you forgot to post the link to the original, free version of Eversion. That everyone can google for themselves. Just saying.)
  • Mahkia
Have you noticed any skipping in the cutscene audio? That's the one major complaint I have about the game, and I can't seem to fix it on my system. I imagine it's got something to do with Windows 7. But I've been immensely enjoying the game in spite of being unable to properly watch the movies in between chapters.

And of course, congratulations! :D I'm glad you're enjoying it.
  • Thanks for that, iLag! I should hire you as my editor! :P
  • David Amador
    First!!!!
Great show as always. Keep it up, also thanks for Vizati feature =)
