Respawn In 3.. 2.. 1..

We’ve been noticeably absent for the past few weeks which is something I’m loathe to admit has been an equal combination of procrastination and Moving™. Between Mahkia’s husband getting a new job and myself prepping to move out of my current apartment, things have been a little more than hectic. But that’s not to say we’re going anywhere!

The  latest episode of 2 Girls 1 Game will be up this weekend since I won’t be available to stop Mahkia from working her editing magic and once I’m settled into the new abode, we will continue our regularly scheduled programming. While we have missed a few weeks, in the downtime I have taken the opportunity to update the site to include an About Page as well as an easy reference for all of the games we’ve talked about on the show.

Of course, just because we’ve hit the pause button, that doesn’t mean the indie community has. There have been a TON of updates and news over the past two weeks, so much that it would take nearly a podcast just to get caught up again. Since we’re all about moving forward we won’t be revisiting the past, but here are a few bits of indie related news you should check out!

Indie News

The Humble Indie Bundle is the biggest bundle to be released this year, though the Love bundle in February had quite a good selection as well. The difference here is that the Humble Bundle allows you to split your contribution between charity or the developers and the best part is that you can pay what you like. In the six days the Bundle was available, it generated over $1 million in sales, which prompted the creators of Gish, Lugaru HD, Aquaria and Penumbra Overture to offer the source code for each of their games.

If you are unfamiliar with any of those titles, you might be more familiar with current titles their developers are working on, with Gish belonging to Edmund McMillen of Super Meat Boy, Aquaria being half the creation of Derek Yu who made Spelunky, and Frictional Games is behind Penumbra who is working on Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Lugaru HD is the spiritual predecessor to Overgrowth produced by Wolfire Games as well.

Steamin’ Along…

For those of you living under a rock, you know Steam for Mac was released this week. To celebrate this fact, Valve has made a few pretty generous offers. The first is the most amazing and while it is not an indie game, it deserves some attention. From now until May 24th, you will be able to download Portal absolutely free.

Torchlight is one of the flagship games to see release on the Mac along with the new Steam client, but it’s not the only indie game to make its debut. To celebrate the release, Steam has partnered with several indie developers to create the Steam Play Indie Pack.

The Steam Play Indie pack includes And Yet It Moves, Galcon Fusion, Machinarium, Osmos, and World of Goo, all for just $19.99. Buying all of these titles separately on Steam would cost you nearly $70 and I can personally vouch for each of them except Galcon Fusion, as I have never played it. This is a great deal that you should snatch up while it lasts, since it is only available until May 19th.

As you can see, the world of indie has been quite busy for a few weeks now and we’re eager to get our greedy little mitts back into the inner workings. We’ve got some great things coming up so check out these great games to tide you over until we’re back into full swing!
